Diagnosis

This strategy made money, turning a 77% total return over 60 trades, but the ride was lumpy with a Sharpe ratio of 0.63. The worst pain came from a 16.44% drawdown that dragged on from early 2018 to mid-2019, so you would have had to sit through a long, slow decline. The result is not driven by just a few lucky trades, since the win rate is a solid 68% and the average trade gained about 1%. The entry timing is a big part of the edge, because real entries beat 96% of random entry runs, meaning the setup is good at picking the right moment to buy. The edge also shows up consistently, as the strategy was profitable in three out of four walk-forward test periods, not just one lucky stretch.
