Diagnosis

This SuperTrend follower strategy on META made a substantial profit of 357.65% over its lifetime, but the ride was extremely lumpy. The worst pain came from a brutal drawdown of nearly 50% that lasted over two years, from August 2020 to November 2022, meaning you would have watched most of your gains evaporate and sit underwater for a very long time. The strategy had a decent win rate of about 51% and an average trade gain of 6.63%, but with only 35 total trades, the result could be driven by just a few big winners. The entry-timing edge is strong, as real entries beat 79% of random entry runs, so the entry signal itself is doing the heavy lifting rather than the exits. The edge was not consistent across all periods, as the strategy was profitable in only 3 out of 4 walk-forward test periods, suggesting the performance came from one or two strong stretches rather than steady, repeatable success.
