Diagnosis

This strategy made money overall, turning a 165% total return, but the ride was very lumpy. The worst stretch was a brutal 33% drawdown that lasted from September 2021 to February 2024, which is where the strategy hurt the most. With a win rate of only 37.5%, most trades were losers, but the winners were big enough to overcome the losses, meaning the result was not driven by just a few lucky trades. The entry timing is strong, beating 81% of random entries, so the entry signal itself is carrying the result rather than the exits. The edge also proved consistent, as the strategy was profitable in all four walk-forward test periods, showing the setup works steadily over time rather than in one lucky stretch.
